Why swedish
You might be stuned but Apple Pie is not American exclusive.
One question that could be propoesed by this very site is, why Swedish? The truth is that I'm bad at writing in Swedish despite it being my mother tongue. This is mostly due to the simple fact that I watch and read almost exclusively english-language media. Given the state of modern swedish media trends, this pattern is only going to become more reinforced and ingrained given time. Truth is that my language has been so heavily influenced by american vernacular that I'm more articulate in english than swedish. My english vocabulary is likely larger, and my rather unhindered understanding of english grammar and idioms frankly worries me a bit.
It's like I'm forgetting natural part of my identity, negligence one might say. One might find this strange, but english media has an extremely powerful impact on the global scene, especially in my profession, programming. I even curse in english. occasionally, and this is somewhat normal where I live. Frankly, this is more a failure of the swedish media landscape than US or "Anglo" imperialism. It's not my fault that the media industry of my nation is not just worthless for technical information since almost all scientific articles are written in English, and the more esoteric stuff is in English.
You are likely a foreigner, given that you're reading this article, one of very few in English on this site. One thing that might perplex a monolingual is that as a bilingual, I can effortlessly think in both languages, but not on a whim. This influence of the languages on you can be a bit alarming when I know the American expression, the english word, or precise definition for something, but I honestly can't express it fully in swedish.
Another thing that motivates me to write in swedish, apart from practicing it myself, is that I'm one of very few Swedes who actually write about Linux. Despite Thorvalds himself speaking swedish, our community is almost as monolingual as the US, despite our incredible diversity. The French have a notorious reputation for taking extreme pride in their language that I feel we shouldn't ignore. After all, when I meet people who can only express themselves in a secondary language, it is a bit cringe.
Anyway, since I'm one of very few, I intend to continue to write in swedish. It's not like I'm making money from advertisements here, so you might as well practice your Swedish. We have largely given up on coining Swedish terms for computer concepts. So I might as well coin them myself.
Apart from that, there is only one programming language in swedish, as far as I know. This is Enkel (meaning easy or simple); it's just a skin of Python with a syntax in Swedish.
